DAILY UPDATE 02/24/26

PHILIPPIANS 1:6
"He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
Good morning. Today marks 95 days in the hospital for Mom—95 days of strength, setbacks, breakthroughs, and God’s steady hand carrying her through each one. It’s incredible to look back and see how far she has come.
This week has brought some of the most encouraging progress yet. Being able to use both legs again has changed everything for her independence. She’s moving with more confidence, her mind is sharper, and she feels more like "Mom" than she has at any point since the accident. Seeing that spark return has been one of the greatest blessings of this entire journey.
We still have hurdles ahead, but for the first time it truly feels like we’re entering the final stretch. Her medical team is hopeful, and so are we.
As we prepare for her to come home, there is a deep mix of joy and emotion. Returning to the house without Dad carries its own weight—so many memories, so much love, and so much change. But Mom continues to show remarkable courage. Her determination through these 95 days has inspired all of us.
Many have asked how they can help, and we want to share openly why there is financial need. Because Mom was hit by a Lancaster county dump truck, there is a formal claims process. The county has six months to accept or reject her claim, and they will almost certainly take the full six months before acting. Even then, Nebraska law caps their responsibility at $1 million total, no matter the actual cost- a cap that has been on the books since the 1980s.
After 95 days in the hospital, multiple surgeries, and the long road of rehabilitation ahead, we know her medical expenses will exceed that cap. Medicare is covering her care right now, but they have already notified us that they will require repayment once the county process concludes. And everything Medicare does not cover—home modifications, the ramp, part of her wheelchair, special nutrition, bed rails, and other essentials—is on us.
We are grateful to provide for the woman who has provided so much for us. We will never let Mom go without. But the truth is, the ongoing expenses are significant, and we don’t know how long we can shoulder them alone without depleting her resources and ours. So while our instinct is to say, “No, we’ve got it,” we are humbly sharing the need because so many have asked how they can help.
We’ll continue posting updates, resources, and ways to support Mom at team402.com as we move into this next chapter. Your prayers, messages, meals, and love have carried us through some very heavy days. As we look ahead, we ask that you continue praying for Mom—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
